Before the program, I was overweight, had a diet high in fat and sugar, was extremely unfit, and out of breath from climbing a flight of stairs. I lacked energy and wanted a nap every afternoon. I didn’t even have the stamina or motivation to take my daughter to the park across the road from our house! I was down about the way I looked and would refuse all photo opportunities, even missing out on making memories with my husband and children on our wedding day.
Now – I feel like I’m a whole new person! I am so much happier and have a positive outlook on life. I feel healthier and fitter than ever before, and actually look forward to pushing myself as hard as I can every morning at Fernwood. I no longer feel tired each day, and have been taking my daughter to the park every weekend. I even jog while she is on the equipment so that I can increase my daily steps.
The biggest light bulb moment was seeing myself in my wedding photos and looking fat, flat and unhappy. It was supposed to be one of the happiest days of my life, but all I could focus on was how bad I thought I looked in my dress and how everyone would point out how much weight I had gained.
I chose Fernwood because the all-female aspect really appealed to me. The 28 Day Breakthru was the kick start I needed to learn all about living a healthy lifestyle and maintaining and continuing to achieve great results.
The most challenging part is building the will power to avoid certain foods, like chocolate and various sweets. These used to be a nightly treat and I had to change that habit and treat myself in other ways like catching up on a favourite TV show or finding an alternative low-calorie snack or drink.
I love every aspect of my club but I enjoy my PT sessions the most. All the trainers that I have been involved with are really positive and encouraging. If there was something I struggled with, they tweaked it so I could work up to it.
The biggest thing I learnt was just how bad my diet was before the 28 Day Breakthru. I didn’t realise just how big my portions were and how few vegetables I was consuming. I was eating a lot of meat and starchy foods like white rice and potatoes which would leave me feeling lethargic. I have since learnt the proper ratios of carbs, fat and protein and have created completely new eating and cooking habits.
The key to my success was the mental motivation – knowing I would come out looking so much better. There’s nothing I wanted more than to pose for a photo with my husband and children and not feel like I look unhealthy and overweight. The encouragement from the staff at Fernwood has certainly helped a lot as well.
I am already a much happier person and my work colleagues have noticed a big difference in my physical appearance and my mental health. I have more energy and I’m looking forward to going shopping for new clothes soon because I’ve already gone down a size!
It can be tough to adapt to an entirely new eating style but if you can stick it out then you’ll see results and feel 100% better. As someone who had never exercised or eaten well, it’s certainly easy to relate to others who are contemplating this program.
Over the next 12 months I would love to achieve my goal weight of 62kg. I want to look and feel happy and healthy, and be comfortable enough to pose for photos with my family.
My husband and I would love another baby to complete our family and I want to be a fit and healthy person so that my pregnancy will be easier and I will have the motivation to exercise again after the baby is born. Another baby is my ultimate goal!
The fact that I have the power to change myself and my outlook on life, and knowing that I have my friends and family behind me every step of the way is what makes me smile.
